ChileProveedores, the Chilean State Supplier Registry, is now open to the private sector

The products and services offered by the businesses registered with Chile’s Official Online Supplier Registry, ChileProveedores, shall now be available not only through the public procurement market, but also to national and foreign businesses.

Thus, the more than 40,000 businesses registered with ChileProveedores, which already enjoy the benefits provided by this online platform in terms of participation in public tendering processes, may now expand their field of action to serve businesses in Chile and across the world.

The suppliers registered with ChileProveedores shall now have the option to display their business curriculum, an online catalog of their products and services, their own website and access to advertisement. A new search engine and listings by field of business shall allow private sector actors to easily locate businesses and products.

Registered members shall also have access to international markets through an agreement with the world’s largest B2B website, Alibaba.com, which includes over 6 million businesses in 240 countries. Using this channel, Chilean businesses shall be able to promote their products and services globally, during a first stage in English, and subsequently in Chinese.

During the inaugural ceremony for this community of suppliers, held on August 26 with over 300 entrepreneurs, the Subsecretary of Finance, María Olivia Recart, declared: “this is a very worthy effort, which proves that the public and private sectors have a common goal. It is an example of innovation that shall provide a quantum leap forward for private businesses and suppliers for the State. Now, all suppliers shall be able to set up their own websites –which shall be open to all Chilean citizens and people all over the world– in order to offer their products and services. This shall lead to new, unsuspected business opportunities and is beneficial to the whole of society.”

“There is still much progress to make in similar fields, as we must ‘level the playing field’ through our combined efforts. Changing business practices is difficult, but very worthwhile, since this is what innovation is all about: leaving our comfort spots and taking on challenges. There is still a tremendous amount of work to be done so that smaller businesses may obtain more employment opportunities,” added Recart.

Verónica González, First Vice-President of CCS, highlighted the importance of the public procurement market for businesses (especially SMEs) in times of economic crisis. Participation in this market is crucial for these smaller businesses. She also mentioned the significant step forward that is being taken with the opening of ChileProveedores to national and international businesses, in terms of business opportunities.

“Suppliers shall be presented to the private sector with a seal of confidence provided by the Chilean State, and this shall increase their opportunities for growth beyond the public procurement market,” stressed Felipe Goya, Director of ChileCompra.

This initiative, which was created for the State, is now expanding towards other Chilean and international markets thanks to the public-private alliance between the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and the Public Procurement Bureau.
